About UHAA PNW
Aloha! The University of Hawai'i Alumni Association - Pacific Northwest chapter (UHAA-PNW) was established in 1994 for the University of Hawai'i graduates and friends now residing in the Pacific Northwest area. It is one of several constituent alumni organizations on the U.S. mainland which belong to the worldwide network of UH alumni groups.
Based in Seattle, the UHAA-PNW membership continues to grow and enjoys many fun-filled activities throughout the year.
Under the umbrella of the system-wide UH alumni chapter network, we are committed to providing support for the University of Hawai'i in areas of student recruitment, promotion of the UH image and international reputation, hosting visiting faculty and officials, providing advanced learning opportunities for students, and supporting the overall mission of the University of Hawai'i.
In addition, members of the UHAA-PNW promote the Aloha Spirit and perpetuate our unique island culture through participation in a variety of events and activities.
You may know, this chapter of University of Hawaii Alumni Association of the Pacific Northwest is part of a much larger organization spanning the world.
In all there are 12 mainland US chapters and nearly 40 chapters in HI and elsewhere representing and supporting the 10 campuses. We are a non-profit organization committed to promoting the health and wealth of the university’s programs and students.
With our new step into the future, in the 101st year of our Alma Mater, I propose some unique approaches to doing just that, including having great fun.
Elsewhere on this site, you will find a power point presentation along those lines that we shared at our most recent 2 functions aka luncheon & dinner party.
We have so much to be proud of with 10 campuses that are internationally recognized, an athletic department that is vibrant and getting much attention (Go Warriors!) and an academic level that is on par with the best. New students are my focus of intention. It is my personal goal to help attract new students by backing them in their local Hawai’ian cultural events and to motivate their parents to join the UHAA–PNW Alumni & Friends. This will help us give new students a leg up on attending UH in helping with orientation, tutoring, and my biggest goal is having the PNW Chapter set up a scholarship program. We have already developed a UH Bookstore gift certificate program.
While it looks like I have a great deal of work to do, I am hoping it will be WE... I am grateful for those who have encouraged me to take on the task as president and I look forward to having other Alums join in; new and old alike! If you feel you have a need to give back and have fun doing good for our Alma Mater, please let me know by phone or e-mail. I look forward to hearing from you.
With warm appreciation to my predecessor Earl Oda and all those who have supported my induction to leading UHAA-PNW to becoming a flagship chapter with the University of Hawai'i Alumni Association.
